Hiring our next Superintendent
Dr. Claude Tiller, Jr. was actively involved in meeting students and being in schools on a daily basis and I want to see that tradition of relationship-building continued by our next Superintendent.
I am 100% committed to involving the whole community in the decision for the next Superintendent to the greatest extent possible and hearing from all stakeholders as we prepare to make this critical decision.

Right-Sizing while protecting neighborhood schools
It is important to be strategic about costs while acknowledging the important role that neighborhood schools play in our lives. They are more than just educational institutions; they are the heart of our neighborhoods and offer a sense of community.
As a district, we need to be aware of declining enrollment and the real impact it has on the budget. The bottom line is that we don't have enough young children in the district to replace those who graduate, and we can't run schools that are less than half-full.
While we will need to combine some schools due to low enrollment, closing schools must be a last resort, and should be accompanied by reductions in central administration costs.
Positive, Hands-On Leadership!
I am a firm believer that Board Members need to be active leaders in directing the change needed in the district. Positive, Hands-On Leadership means listening to all perspectives (not only the administration's) and making decisions that make sense for everyone. In my years on the Board I have always demonstrated my independent decision-making and willingness to listen to all sides of an issue and vote accordingly.
