Hiring our next Superintendent
My statement on the resignation of Dr. Claude Tiller, Jr. as Superintendent, reflecting my individual opinion as an independent elected official:
"As the conversation progresses around the resignation of Dr. Claude Tiller, Jr., I have heard thoughtful feedback from many people expressing passionate emotion and a deep desire for understanding and making sure we are doing the right things for our kids.
During his time with us, Dr. Tiller moved us forward in several positive directions. He displayed a commitment to being present in our school buildings almost every day while also insisting that meetings being held in schools rather than central offices. Dr. Tiller was also a strong advocate for student voice and including the voices of all students.
As we move forward and pursue excellence and progress, my goal as an independent elected official is to not just “hear” but truly listen to everyone who brings their perspective and speaks strongly and openly about the ideas that shape our future. We need to have hard conversations about difficult topics - staying comfortable is not a pathway to progress. It's also important to recognize that discussions regarding specific individuals and situations often involve some details that cannot be shared. This balance is important to respect the rights and the dignity of every individual.
I thank Dr. Tiller for his service and dedication to our district. And to everyone in our community, I extend my gratitude for your engagement and passion. Working together, we can navigate this transition in a way that includes the diverse voices of the community with the best interests of our students at heart."
